We are in need of a parent (or two parents) to chair the bullpen committee for Home Meets and League Champs this season! This individual will coordinate volunteers to work bullpen in shifts during our home meets and then on Sunday at Champs. The bullpen corrals and organizes swimmers from both teams and leads them to the blocks before their event. Many parents have already volunteered to help with bullpen this season and a list will be provided to the chairperson(s). Contact Coach Chris if interested.

Our First Home Meet is October 6th!!

Dear Parents,

The Penguin swim team is in desperate need of more officials! Parents with no or little swim experience can become an official as all the training you need is provided and you shadow veteran officials before you're on your own. And we have many parents (who are ex-swimmers or are seasoned veteran parents) that already know most of the rules ... please, I encourage you to become an official! Please contact me if you are interested. There are two upcoming officials clinics listed below.

Thank you.
Coach Chris

YMCA Swim Officials
Sunday, September 30. 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Grove City YMCA.

Thank you to all the parents that have volunteered to help this weekend at Champs, your support is truly appreciated. Originally, we thought we needed concessions to run for only the morning on Sunday. We were incorrect, and we will need concessions until around 3:00pm. Therefore, we are in desperate need of volunteers to work at the concession stand on Sunday. If you are able to work at the concession stand for any amount of time, please contact Nancy Lyons asap via email: NLyons56@aol.com. We cannot run a concession stand all day with only a few volunteers, so please help if you can. Good luck to all the Penguin Swimmers!

With Penguin Pride,

Dear Penguin Parents,

Jennifer and I would like to thank all the parents who have donated time, food, and energy to make this year's concession stand a huge success. We will not need any food or drink donations for this Saturday's home meet.

We are in need of concession stand volunteers to work during the meet. We will have three shifts: set-up from 12:00 noon to 2pm, 2pm to 4pm, and 4pm to clean-up. Please e-mail Nancy at NLyons56@aol.com to volunteer for one of these shifts.

Thanks again for supporting OUR team.

Parents,

If you are able to help with the bullpen for this Saturdays' home meet to help line up the swimmers, please let me know!

I would love to get enough volunteers to be able to split shifts, so the wonderful parents who do volunteer can do 1/2 the meet, rather than the entire meet.

Thank you!

Dear Parents,

Get your Penguins ready for the Plunge! We have reviewed all of the volunteer sheets and have assigned everyone an important position. We tried very hard to place you in your first preference, but, filling all of the jobs was our first priority.

If your swimmer was signed up to swim and we did not see a completed volunteer form, we signed you up where there was a need. We were thrilled to see the great response for volunteers and as always, your time and dedication are appreciated.

Please contact Dan Newman if you have any questions: (614) 209-2299

I just wanted to thank the parents that helped with everything today. The meet ran pretty smooth minus a couple of electronic glitches. For those who helped me with timing, I appreciate you making my first attempt, and hopefully my last, a little easier. I am sure that the Head Timer would have been proud of us. Anyway thank you all who put in your time and showed our swimmers what teamwork really is.

Thanks

This week only I have been asked to take over the head timer duties for the home meet. On the internet I noticed that we have approximately 22 people signed up to help. To make things run smoothly it takes closer to 26 including runners for both halves of the meet. If you have not signed up yet and not sure how to do so please e-mail me at pndlimbert@aol.com to be put onto the list. Again we would like to work the meet in halves which would include 2 timers for each lane for events 1-44 and the next set for events 45-90. If you have no experience timing don't worry about it. It is as easy as pushing a button. Everyone who has volunteered please see me on Saturday for lane assignments.

Thanks

There will be a timers training session one hour prior to the start of this first home meet. If you are new to the team or new to timing this is the thing to do! Timing is easy, fun and close to the action. Please don't be shy or hink we don't need you. WE DO! Email me if you plan on timing at this meet.
Timers are cool.

Dear Parents,

We are short on volunteers to work the bullpen at our home meets this season and help out with our own swimmers at away meets! Parents stage the swimmers for their events before they go the blocks. Please consider helping out (veteran parents will train you). We need "seasoned" bullpen workers by the end of the season because it's our our team's responsibility at Champs in March!!

If you can help this season, please e-mail Paulette Thomas at PTLovesMe2@aol.com.

Thank you!

Hello fellow Penguin Parents!

I would like to invite any Penguin parent interested in learning more about the Colorado Timing System to a training/maintenance session at the Y this Sunday, September 24th beginning at 4:00 pm.

We will be performing some simple maintenance tasks on the various Colorado Timing System components to make sure everything is in good working order before our first home meet.

I was thinking that it would be great to combine these maintenance tasks with training for anyone who would like to learn how to set up, operate, and take down the timing system. But there's great news! We have just been given a very special opportunity to fix (or at least diagnose) the stuck elements of the score board! As the veteran parents will attest, the stuck elements of our scoreboard have been somewhat of an embarrasment to the team for a number of years now. Anyway, there will be a lift provided for this purpose!

To those of you who have helped out with the CTS in the past, this would be a great time for a refresher course, to pick up some new knowledge, or to meet/train new folks!

Please respond to scarpij@aol.com if you plan on attending. If 4:00 does not work, let me know what time to expect you!

Thanks, Joe Scarpitti
